Caring for my husband as his dementia has progressed has slowly taken over every part of my daily life, and recently the fatigue has become impossible to ignore. I’m drained not only physically but emotionally as well. Full nights of sleep are rare, my social life has nearly disappeared, and even basic self-care gets pushed aside. I often hear about short-term help or planned breaks for caregivers, yet I struggle to believe they truly make a positive difference. Can stepping away actually improve care, or does it simply add another layer of stress and guilt?
